Description
There is no doubt for me that Windows Mobile OS is the most flexible mobile OS ever, comparing to Palm, iPhone & Symbian OS's (maybe new Google Android OS will present something new), it's flexibility is inherited from Widows powerful API, even so it's not so eye candy as much as Apple OS, but with couple App's or with coming WM7 it will be even better!
Anyway, here I would like to introduce my small application and my first windows mobile program, most readers here will not need it unless you working in Aviation/Truism/Ticketing field (and of course you should has some PocketPC Device) , so if you are not, you can stop reading.
Because in the moment of writing this there wasn't a good app for IATA & ICAO Airport codes with a fresh database, so I decided to make my own one, I collected the data base information from the great Wikipedia web site, reformatted them in a suitable way for MS SQL compact Server, and made this small application, I hope you will find it helpful for your business.
Pre-requirements:
- A device with Windows Mobile 5 or latter.
- This application using .Net Compact Framework 3.5 and SQL Server Compact, so if you not sure that this components installed on your device, please download and install the three Cab files that in the attached ‘pre-requirements’ file before running my application, and you should install them in a sequence according to their numbers (device rebooting maybe required to accomplish this files installation).
- Data Base of about 6000 Airports collected from Wikipedia in 8/2009, indexed for fast search.
- You can search by IATA, ICAO, Country, City, Airport name and Region.
- Show all search results in non ugly grid way.
- Each airport name has a link to its article on Wikipedia for more information.
- Special button for quick paste from clipboard.
- You can easily select & copy anything from the search results.
- You can use extended search in the application by using special characters like S% or S* to find all airports that starts with letter S for example.
Note:
There is still some functionality that I intend to add in the near future and that are disabled in current release, please revisit this page for updates.
