Forward Pass is an easy-to-use authoring system for Windows® Powered Pocket PCs. People with minimal programming experience can produce polished, visually interesting, applications that run on any PDA using the Pocket PC operating system. And they can do it on the road, away from their desktop computers. Forward Pass does not require a separate development environment. With just a click of a toolbar button, the program switches instantly from run mode to edit mode. Using the built-in form and script editors, applications are designed and tested on the device itself. And developers can access any control's properties and methods using either JavaScript or VBScript (if available on the device) as the programming language. But unlike other development environments, you won't have to depend as much on ActiveX controls for ordinary things like accessing files or showing images. As an alternative to typing scripts on a handheld device, Forward Pass also includes a desktop accessory for editing scripts using an ActiveSync connection. And once the application is ready, the desktop program can automatically build an installation package by connecting to the device and retrieving the necessary files. Forward Pass makes it easy to create attractive applications. The program includes color gradient backgrounds; over eighty visual transitions (including wipes, reveals, and slides); and a built-in image box control that can load and save bit-maps including those bigger than the control itself. It also has a number of editing tools that are usable with the stylus or through script commands. This makes the image box ideal for capturing signatures or annotating images. Not only that, developers can load two bit-maps into an image control and set the control to act as either a command button or a toggle button. Attractive, professional interfaces require just a few taps of the stylus.
